A conference to be held 16-18 March 2010 at Trinity College’s Belfast campus (the Irish School of Ecumenics, 683 Antrim Road).

Each new epoch in the life of the Church is born from the white-hot fires of a fundamental question, a question with the power to scorch the very ground that has previously sustained us. When they arise, these fundamental questions invite us to rethink what it means to be part of the body of Christ. They have nothing to do with the myriad of disagreements that exist within the shared theological horizon, but rather challenge the very horizon itself. They do not revolve around differences within and between established Christian groups but rather place into question what these groups all take for granted. They cut across what is assumed, short-circuit what is hallowed and, in doing so, appear to threaten the very essence of Christianity itself.

Yet again we stand at the threshold of such a question. A question that needs to be courageously heralded for fear that it will otherwise be ignored or repressed. A question that holds the power to spark a rupturing and re-imagining of the present configuration of Christianity. Join Phyllis Tickle, Dave Tomlinson, Peter Rollins, the ikon collective and others as we explore what this revolutionary question might be and, if listened to, what it might mean for the very future of the Christian faith. To register, and for more more information, please visit the conference website.

The Irish School of Ecumenics Trust has instituted the Boris Trajkovski Scholarship which will be awarded annually to a student from the Balkans region to undertake a taught masters programme in either ecumenical studies, international peace studies, or reconciliation studies. The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Methodist Church in Britain, in the spirit of ecumenical partnership. It honours the memory of the former President of Macedonia the Hon. Boris Trajkovski who, in 2002, was awarded the World Methodist Peace Award on the basis of his significant contributions to peace, reconciliation and justice. This scholarship is open to Christians of all denominations who can demonstrate a commitment to the vision and mission of the Methodist Church Fund for World Mission, (the promoter of the scholarship). It is intended to support the ongoing work of reconciliation in the region by providing the opportunity for individuals who have been involved in ecumenical, inter-faith, reconciliation or peace work to undertake a 1-year taught masters degree in the Irish School of Ecumenics. The Boris Trajkovski Scholarship is worth a total of €30,000 from which university fees and a stipend will be paid. For more information, including how to apply, click here.
