Ecumenical Memorial Service for Fr Michael Hurley, 15 Sept, in Belfast

There will be an ecumenical memorial service for the late Fr Michael Hurley SJ on Thursday 15 September at 2.30 pm in Fortwillam and Macrory Presbyterian Church, Antrim Road, Belfast.

It will be conducted by the Rev. Dr Lesley Carroll and the preacher will be the V. Rev. Dr John Dunlop, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

Light refreshments will follow at the Irish School of Ecumenics, 683 Antrim Road, Belfast (the former Centre of the Columbanus Community).

Fr Michael Hurley (1923-2011) was founder of the Irish School of Ecumenics (1970), and of the Columbanus Community of Reconciliation in Belfast (1983). He died on 15 April 2011. He was a leading figure in interchurch relations, a visionary exemplar of ecumenical practice, and a pioneer in the development of Ecumenics as a field of research and education, in Ireland and beyond.
